I am impressed with the Wii and it's interface. It's very straight forward and easy to follow, with point and click ease. I created a little video to show it off, it would have been longer but the Shop Channel didn't connect for me and I had to cut it short.
I also show off some Wii Sports in the video, including Tennis and Bowling.
Before I get started, one thing that I don't like, which is purely cosmetic, is that there is no logo screen when the Wii starts up. It just goes right into the interface. Nothing really to say 'Nintendo' which the n64 and GC did have, and all of the other passed Nintendo systems.
Now on to Wii Sports: The controls are kinda hard to get used to but once you do it's pretty easy. I am not a fan of the baseball at all, even if you do manage to get men on bases you'll normally end up getting struck out. I played 5 innings with no score for either team. I had to turn it off at that point, I just couldn't take it. The pitching was very sensitive, maybe too sensitive. If you happen to move your hand a bit getting ready for the pitch the game will detect that as your throw, and sorry fella, there are no do-overs like in bowling.
One cool thing was the ability to spin your bat around impatiently while waiting for the pitch, but that about wraps it up for cool in this title.
The Golf was strange, but perhaps better than baseball. The driving was easy and didn't take long to get to use too. The putting was strange, the greens look basically flat which makes it fun when, after your putt, you get to watch your ball roll along this imaginary curve that isn't visually represented. Unfortunately the game isn't sensitive enough to pick up a slow putting motion, which is pretty important. Instead you have to swing at it pretty fast, which will usually result in the ball flying to the other end of the green.
The boxing is not very breath taking either. The punching system is a little lack-luster. You can only jab the head or the stomach, and that's it for default moves. To be able to actually perform a hook you have to get enough hits or do a certain combo and then you are treated to a nice right or left hook to the stomach, or even the head if the game feels you deserve it.
Nintendo is trying to bring people together with the Wii, most notably with the Mii system. On the Mii system you can create personal avatars and link them to specific Wiimote's or E-mail them to another person with the Wii Console through the system itself. The ability to send messages to other Wii consoles in your Friend List/Address book is convenient if you don't feel like walking to a computer to e-mail someone and they have a Wii as well, or if you know they check their Wii-mail more then their E-mail. After linking it to the controller (the Mii character actually saves to some memory on the controllers) you can bring it to another location and save the Mii to that system or just continue to use it from the controller itself.
You can get the video here (WMV, 14.5MBs). -Enjoy
